The other game in our Group saw Falkirk and Livingston play out a 1 - 1 draw. Lyndon Dykes having opened the scoring in the 36th minute for Livvy before Conor Sammon making his debut for Falkirk equalised in the 90th. Livvy won the penalty shoot out scoring all their penalties to win 4 -3 and to gain the bonus point.
Fellow Lowland League side East Kilbride lost 1 - 0 at home to Albion Rovers. Jordan Stewart getting the only goal of the game in the 25th minute.
Hibs and Hamilton both struggled against lower league opposition. Hibs being held to a 1 -1 draw at Stirling Albion. Scott Allan scoring from the penalty spot just on half-time following a hand ball in the box, David Wilson equalising in the 70th. Hibs went on to win the penalty shoot 5 - 4 despite Allan missing second time around. Meanwhile Hamilton were held at home by Queens Park, neither side breaking the deadlock in 90 minutes. Queens going on to win the shoot out 6 - 5 , Tommy Block scoring the decisive penalty with Fon Williams the Accies keeper managing to get booked during the shoot out presumably as a result of the new rules.
Dundee won 3 - 0 at Raith leading to this tweet......
.....oh, and manager John McGlynn was sent off after 15 minutes.
Our squad may be thin but Brechin City boss Barry Smith had to put his boots on for the first time in 9 years to play in their 3 - 0 defeat at Forfar. We may see big Kev pull on the Black and Gold yet.
Cowdenbeath won the Fife derby beating East Fife 2 - 0 with both goals coming in the first half along with a first minute booking for Fraser Mullen which isn't really the best start to the season.
Ross County had a fairly straight forward 4 - 1 win over Montrose. A 92nd minute goal from Steven Doris saw Arbroath beat Elgin 2 - 1. C*v* lost their first game as a league club 2 - 1 at Peterhead despite taking a 14th minute lead through a Jamie Masson penalty, Derek Lyle equalising for The Blue Toon before the inevitable Rory McAllister goal, this time from the penalty spot, sealed the win before half-time. Dumbarton won 1 - 0 at Annan while Motherwell also won in the South West putting three past Queen of the South with no reply. Partick pipped Airdrie 1 - 0 with the decisive moment being a Sean Crighton own goal in the second half.
