Another glorious day for football, another cup match, another win and another clean sheet.

This was very much a case of doing what needed to be done and a fairly facile victory over a pretty poor opposition. The game was effectively over after the first half hour by which time we were four up. The only change to the team from the previous week saw Captain Euan Smith make his debut competitive start having come of the bench the previous week with Ali Forster dropping to the bench. Star started with old boy and player-manager Darren Smith on the pitch and Craig Hume missing entirely from the matchday squad.

Berwick were on top right from the kick off and were awarded a clear penalty which Healy converted in the 8th minute despite the keeper going the right way. We continued to create chances with Star offering little threat and got our reward in the 22nd minute when Cammy Lumsden got his first goal for the club nodding in after Healy's header had come back of the woodwork. This followed a lovely crossfield ball from Waugh to Barr and a decent cross back into the box. It only took another two minutes for Euan Smith to open his account with the simplest of headers from a corner. The ball found him in glorious isolation in the box and it was the easiest task for him to nod home. The scoring would be completed in the 29th minute when Healy grabbed his second of the game after getting in between two defenders and the goalkeeper in the six yard box, the cross managed to beat all of them and bounce back of the foot of the post as the keeper made a hash of attempting to clear it allowing Healy to prod it home. And that was that.

The rules mean you have to play the second half but it was more like a pre-season friendly. Given we now face a run of three crucial league games and the heat the game was played in it was understandable that we took our foot of the gas. About the only notable thing I can remember from the second half was that Ricky Miller made a mistake and gave the ball away - pretty much a first for him so far.

I can't say we learnt anything form this but we can see a team that's starting to develop and players who are settling into their roles and getting an understanding of each other. We now have to carry this over into the next three games. Our league position looks dire, yes we've only played two games but we need to get off the mark and quick.
